A small privacy tool with a simple rule: prove the claim.
NoTrace is an independent photo privacy utility built by Jay. It helps people inspect what a photo reveals, create a cleaner copy, and verify the result before sharing.
Files stay private
The iPhone app processes supported media on the device. The browser checker reads selected photos locally and does not upload them to NoTrace.
Limits stay visible
Supported metadata varies by format. Marker detection is not the same as cryptographic C2PA verification. We say so where it matters.
Originals stay untouched
NoTrace creates a separate output. Useful original metadata remains available in the private source file.
How we publish a metadata claim
- Start with a real question. Topics come from user questions, support requests, and search queries, not a target word count.
- Check primary documentation. Apple documentation, technical standards, and platform policies come before summaries from other sites.
- Test behavior that can change. Sharing-path claims need a recorded device, operating-system version, app version, source file, recipient file, and repeatable inspection.
- Separate evidence types. Documented behavior, our observation, and a NoTrace product capability are labeled as different things.
- Do not invent certainty. If a path has not been tested, it stays unverified. If a limitation exists, it belongs beside the claim.
- Update only when something changed. A modification date moves when the substance of a page changes, not to make old content look fresh.
Software-assisted work
Software tools may help organize research, draft copy, write code, or create illustrations. They are not treated as evidence. Published factual claims must trace to a cited primary source or a recorded test.
